Let's Start with the Role
The Senior Tax Specialist will be a key member of the Finance team in Brazil, primarily responsible for overseeing the compliance process for both Direct and Indirect taxes, ensuring full adherence to all relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in general tax matters, along with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. This role reports to the Head of Accounting in Brazil, and has a key dotted-line relationship with the Global Tax Leadership team in Greece.
- Oversee and ensure the timely and accurate filing of both direct and indirect taxes, including withholding tax returns for the legal entity in Brazil. This involves managing tax activities related to, PIS, COFINS, ISS, IRPJ, CSLL and reviewing ancillary obligations such as DCTF, and Sped-Fiscal;
- Coordinate of Tax Compliance Activities: Ensure adherence to company deadlines and internal controls;
- Analyze Brazil’s indirect tax credits;
- Develop transfer pricing documentation and manage intercompany and cross-border reconciliations;
- Monitor and research changes in tax legislation, including conducting risk assessments and strategic planning;
- Lead initiatives related to VAT tax reform, including analyzing regulatory changes and their implications;
- Collaborate with internal teams to assess current practices and recommend improvements;
- Work closely with FP&A to review quarterly/annual forecasts and prepare cash tax forecasts;
- Assist the tax controversy team with tax audits in Brazil and discuss technical issues with tax auditors, in collaboration with local and global teams;
- Identify and implement improvements/automation related to internal controls processes, including tax compliance processes and risk mitigation;
- Analyze and implement tax benefits related to incentive laws (e.g., Sports and R&D);
- Play a key role in promoting awareness of the Indirect and Direct Tax within the BR territory;
- Address basic Direct/Indirect Tax questions related to Brazil and review contractual relationships that impact the Tax area, providing guidance to relevant stakeholders.
What you'll bring:
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or within a multinational corporate tax department;
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred;
- Extensive experience and knowledge of the Brazilian tax environment, including, PIS, COFINS, and ISS;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex tax laws in a business setting, in both Portuguese and English;
- Ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams;
- Experience in internalizing tax services is a plus
- Proficiency in both English and Portuguese is required.
